In January we received a call about a stray dog hanging out at a construction site in Memphis, TN. The workers were very kind to him and fed him every day, day after day. He was there every day waiting on them. When the construction job was complete and the workers were gone there was no one to care for him. One of the workers contacted a lady by the name of Alicia and Alicia contacted Hearts of Gold Pit Rescue, and of course, we took him into our pack.
We took him immediately to our vet Dr. Snow at Berclair Animal Hospital. In Dr. Snow’s initial evaluation it was determined that BoBo had mange, he was under weight and both his front legs were misshapen. Dr. Snow thought he might have rickets, but after further examination it was determined he has a genetic birth defect, that can only be corrected by surgery and that he would be referring us to Mississippi State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
BoBo has been doing great…until about a week ago. He got really sick, throwing up, not able to eat, and got dehydrated. He went back to Dr. Snow who checked him and ran some tests and he determined that BoBo had some type of obstruction. On Monday, he underwent a 1 ½ hour surgery. It appears our little pup had swallowed some pieces of rope toys and other stuff. He is finally back home with his foster mom recovering.
His medical bills since his rescue in January are close to $2,500 (this includes neuter, vaccinations, two rounds of mange treatment, two monthly supplements for his legs, surgery for obstruction, multiple x-rays, blood work, hospitalization, meds for infection, nausea and pain). We are a very small home based rescue with limited resources. We are 501c3 approved, so ALL donations are tax deductible.
